Our Revealer of Mysteries

Then Daniel returned to his house and explained the matter to his friends Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. He urged them to plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery .... During the night the mystery was revealed to Danial in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven.... -- Daniel 2:17-19 (NIV)
Context: Daniel 2 (NIV)

King Nebuchadnezzar had made an insane demand of the wise men of Babylon: "Not only are you to tell me what my dream means, but you must also tell me what I dreamed. Oh, and by the way, if you can't do both, you'll all be cut into pieces."

Not exactly a pleasant situation to be in. How could they possibly meet the King's demand? The Babylonians had no idea whom to turn to for help--they didn't even think their gods were likely to help them (v. 11).

Daniel, however, knew whom to turn to--the God of heaven. He also calls on his faithful friends to aid him in presenting this need to God. This is an excellent model for us, as well, when we face difficulties and, yes, even seemingly impossible situations. Call on God, and ask faithful friends to call on Him, too.

Prayer: Our God, we often face crises and decisions that seem impossible. Help us to depend only on you (and your Spirit's guidance through other Christian beleivers) and not on our own self-centered thinking and resources. In Jesus' name, Amen!
