When We Do Not Know What to Do
How often do you think or speak the first part of the above sentence? Long before our first gray hairs appear, most of us discover that life has a way of regularly placing in our path situations we just aren't quite sure how to handle. Unexpected phone calls, requests from my children, situations in the church I pastor--all of these often remind me that I simply do not know what is best to do. When Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, spoke the above words, a vast army was threatening the nation he was charged with leading. Although he didn't know what to do, he chose to fix his eyes on the One who he was confident did know what to do. A national fast was proclaimed, and the people of Judah came together to seek the Lord. As a result, God blessed Jehoshaphat and his people with words of assurance and a powerful act of deliverance. Where do we turn when the circumstances of life are too big for us to handle? May we know, like Jehoshaphat, that we do not have to be afraid or discouraged, or to fight life's battles alone. May our eyes be upon the Lord who is with us.
