It's After Easter; Now What?

Simon Peter, Thomas (called Didymus), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. "I’m going out to fish," Simon Peter told them, and they said, "We’ll go with you." So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. --John 21:2,3 (NIV)
Context: John 21:1-25 (NIV)

It is now two weeks after Easter, and I ask myself, "Has it made a difference?" Jesus Christ's death and resurrection were so amazing, almost overwhelming, but has this love that God showed for us humans (for me!) made any difference in how I live my everyday life?

Peter and several others of the disciples close to Jesus had this same experience. The first Easter had come and gone, but they were like boats floating without a destination. What were they to do? Where were they to go? So Peter suggests the only thing he really knew how to do before he had met Jesus. "Let's go fishing." But notice that they spent all night working and caught nothing.

Is this my situation? After meeting Jesus and experiencing his grace and forgiveness of my sin, do I simply go back to the routines of my life? It is frightening to wait for God's direction for my life and not to be in complete control myself. Yes, God may lead me into situations that I feel unprepared for. The good news is that he will lead me, and if I trust in his direction, my life will have an excitement and a purpose like I have never known without him.

Prayer: My God, help me to ask for your directions for how I live--what I do and what I say. Forgive me for at times being afraid or not even seeking to know your guidance. I truly want to be your disciple. In Jesus' name, Amen.
